Foolishness Running Amok

Here we go again. I sometimes think we as a culture have lost our collective mind. First, I hear that two first graders have been suspended for playing cops and robbers and shooting at each other with their fingers. Remember – "If fingers are outlawed, only outlaws will have fingers."

Then I hear that a kindergarten girl has been suspended for making terrorist threats by telling her friend she was going to shoot her with a toy gun that shoots only soap bubbles. After a bit of public outcry, her suspension was reduced from ten days to two days. Two minutes would have been too much.

These kinds of things are indicative of the lack of wisdom, common sense, and biblical discernment in our culture today. When we consider the things that are given "hearty approval" (Romans 1:32, NASB) by politicians and the media, while we vilify the innocent actions of little children, we can only conclude that we as a nation have truly forgotten a number of important biblical injunctions, including the following two:

"Go from the presence of a foolish man when you do not perceive in him the lips of knowledge" (Proverbs 14:7, NKJV).

"Woe unto them that call evil good, and good evil; that put darkness for light, and light for darkness; that put bitter for sweet, and sweet for bitter!" (Isaiah 5:20, NKJV).

I have to wonder – What would have happened if these students had been playing abortion doctor, dishonest politician, or lying member of the media instead? I suspect they would have been rewarded in some way for lifting up the "honorable" segments of our society. Our country is certainly in a mess today. The Gospel of Jesus Christ is the only answer to the many problems we face.

  1. What would happen? In a discussion of the checks and balances in our Constitution I used the recent example of the Amendment to the California Constitution that the people passed defining marriage as the union between one man and one woman. It was thrown out by a federal judge and is now working its way to the Supreme Court. It is a good example, current and touches their lives.

I did not initially put any moral judgement on it but knew the questions would come. What did I think of "gay" marriage. Why? I was called into the principal's office because I said the Bible taught it was wrong.

Our culture is not crazy, it is steeped in sin. You and I know that.

Tighten your belt and get ready for persecution.

    Grace and peace.

  2. Pumice: Great comment. Sin is the real issue and is the reason people ignore the important things and concentrate on meaningless nonsense.

I welcome your comments. However, since this is a blog rather than an open forum, I will determine what is and what is not posted. All comments, especially anonymous comments, will be scrutinized carefully. I will not post comments that contain profanity or are negative toward the Scriptures, God, Christianity in general, Christian schools, or the United States of America. I also will not post comments that are nothing more than generally uninformed or absurd opinions. In addition, I will not post comments that are totally irrelevant to the subject being discussed. Finally, I will not post comments that are commercial advertisements or advertisements for religious organizations which are in conflict with my biblical convictions.
