It is interesting that many will
say that our government is like the mythical outlaw Robin Hood, who allegedly
“stole from the rich and gave to the poor.” Our government takes from those who
produce and gives to those who don’t. Since Robin Hood supposedly did that,
this activity must be altruistic and honorable.
That is appealing to many, but it
takes very little research to realize that the fictitious Mr. Hood actually took
from the corrupt government, personified by Prince John and the Sheriff of
Nottingham, and gave back to the rightful owners and producers what was stolen
by that government. Robin Hood is more of a representative of the Tea Party
than he is of the socialists who want to redistribute wealth in order to be
sure everyone is “equal,” regardless of ability, hard work, and wise
investment.
Obviously, the Tea Party does not
literally rob from the government as Robin Hood did, but their common philosophy is
clearly that of those who believe the government is out of control. When
government steps over the bounds of reasonable taxation and appropriates for
itself many functions which it does not
constitutionally possess, it has become Prince John, not Robin Hood.
